Metlox was one of the largest manufacturers of California Pottery and Ceramics. They started in 1927 and survived all the way up to the late 1980s. They produced nearly 1000s of patterns on dinnerware, artware, garden items, figurines and miscellaneous pottery and ceramics. There's a very good chance you may have some Metlox items in your house and not even know it - or for certain, if you have older relatives they'll have come into contact with the dinnerware at some point in time. Some pieces and patterns have appreciated tremendously, while others can be had for a fraction of their original cost. Remember that the company produced items right up until the close in 1989.

The comprehensive book by Carl Gibbs Jr. is an amazing resource to have - it is unbelievably detailed. I might in fact take quite awhile to get used to since the book emphasizes and is ordered by "shape" rather than alphabetical pattern name.
