PLEASE SEE NOTES AT BOTTOM.
I found these really interesting mugs the other day (I’ve listed them in the “other / unknown” category even though I have a guess about the maker). I originally picked them up because they have cool black-green abstract designs. One concentrates more on diamond and circle shapes and the other seems to be some sort of flowers. The “green” actually seems to be a halo surrounding the black glaze design - like it sort of spread when fired. I don’t know anything about the manufacturing of pottery so I don’t know if that’s how they got the effect.

The bottom of the mug has a “WP” mark and it says “Made In England”. I think this might stand for Prince William Pottery because I saw some other pieces in auctions with the same mark. But I (they) could be wrong. No idea on when these mugs were made either - I wasn’t able to find that much about Prince William Pottery. What I did find seemed to indicate they made a lot of commemorative pieces?
Update 8/2008: A nice reader let us know that the Prince William Pottery is actually based in Edge Lane, Liverpool in the UK. They also have a website. I think this is the same one, since they say they’ve been around for 40 years. However, their current output of mugs is pretty standard modern stuff - advertising, souvenir and cheesy “magic mugs”.
Update 4/2009: The manager for Prince William Pottery contacted us to say that these were NOT made by them. As always, we appreciate it when others can give us more accurate information and will try and post it up when possible. This is the beauty of the internet, you learn as you go. Incidentally, I didn’t mean “cheesy” in necessarily a bad way. =)

Sorry to disappoint you but the mugs you refer to are not Prince William Pottery. Not too sure what WP stands for but we have never had a stamp on the bottom of our mugs.
p.s. Our Magic mugs are not really that cheesey and we have been in business over 70 years
