Dandelion Stackers - Mad About Mugs

More fun porcelain stacking mugs from Japan. These feature what looks like dandelion or some kind of puffball flower on stems alternating with single leaves. I had two types, one alternates pink and blue and the other alternates reddish-orange and yellow. There is a gold leaf trim going around the top.

Interesting, the handles on these look slightly different than the ones we usually see. They have a more pronounced indentation where the two-finger grip is. They also have a little swipe of goldleaf on the top of the handle (you can’t see it in the photo). They’re marked “Japan” in red, printed on the bottom of the mugs.

Checkerboard and Flowers

Another couple of mugs that are the Japanese stacking variety with the “two-finger” handles. These are actually mold marked on the bottom as “Japan” and what looks like “S.I” in a circle? I forgot to take a picture of it. The pattern is a dark brown and yellow checkerboard pattern with white flowers on top of it. I wish I knew what company made these, or if it was several companies who all used the same design. They do seem to be fairly common - I’ve no idea on when it was producecd as well.

Mikasa Mad About Mugs

Found these great Mikasa Pastelle mugs the other day. They actually look a bit yellowish in the pictures, but the orange is actually a solid color as seen below on the picture of backstamp. Don’t know too much about these. The handles are white and squarish. They are marked with the line name and D6200 Japan on the back. When I was at the thrift there were also plates and bowls that matched but I didn’t get those.

Fire King Orange Flower mug - Mad About Mugs

I’ve seen this flower pattern on Fire King stacking mugs sometimes referred to as the “Daybreakers” or “Day Breaker” pattern. I’m not yet 100% sure if that’s the true name or not. There’s various colors and flowers for this pattern - but all are similar in that there is a single flower, viewed from the top, and there are 4 green leaf clusters surrounding the flower at each diagonal.

Unknown Japanese Flower Espresso Mug

This is a very interesting little tall mug or cup with an elongated handle. It’s marked simply as “Japan” on the bottom and measures 4 inches tall and only 2 inches in diameter. There’s a nice pattern of flowers in white, red and yellow with an orange background printed all around the mug. We were trying to figure out what this style of mug might be used for - it could be an espresso mug but it’s so tall.
